Babies begin teething at different timelines and how much this affects them varies between infants. But whether their first tooth erupts early or late, this is a milestone that should be celebrated by the family. In doing so, a leading pediatrician and parenting expert is sharing some tips for parents on baby teething.
Dr. Tanya Altman, herself a mother of three kids, shares to Parent Herald valuable and easy to follow tricks in helping a teething baby relieve her discomfort. Among these include giving babies a "teething ring with soft bristles," which they can chew on, to alleviate the baby's sensitive gums. It's also helpful for parents to regularly rub and massage the gums with their clean fingers.
Dr. Tanya Altman said that a piece of cold melon could provide relief for teething babies, too. Using a mesh feeder with the melon could soothe the soreness as well as introduce the baby to fruit. Parents can also use a cold washcloth or teething ring instead of the melon. By the way, these items need not be frozen as it will be too cold for the baby, which could injure her.
For best relief, Dr. Tanya Altman also recommends giving teething babies Infants' TYLENOL® to limit the pain. However, speak with your pediatrician first for additional guidance before giving baby her doses.
Incidentally, TYLENOL® is enjoining parents to celebrate their baby's teething milestone by sending out e-cards to family and friends. All parents have to do is upload a photo of baby's first toothy smile via the TYLENOL® It's A Tooth. For each uploaded and created e-card, a $1 donation will be made to Operation Smile.
Teething infants could often be seen drooling, chewing or getting cranky, but this is all part of normal growth and development. To learn more about baby's teething watch the video below.
