Reports about Ricky Rubio being traded this offseason has once again been a hot topic after new reports have surfaced saying that the Minnesota Timberwolves have signed point guards Toure' Murry and John Luca III.
Earlier this week, reports claimed that Rudy Gay will be traded by the Sacramento Kings in order to acquire Rubio. Rubio will then play alongside DeMarcus Cousins to form a powerful duo in court. The trade rumors concerning Rubio have been fueled once again despite Minnesota Timberwolves asserting that they will keep him.
In a report by NBC Sports, league sources claim that the Minnesota Timberwolves signed Murry and Lucas in order to give them a shot at a roster spot. As of now, Minnesota Timberwolves have 15 players and among those players, they have three point guards, one of them is Rubio, the second one is Kris Dunn, and the third is Tyus Jones. If the reports are true that The Minnesota Timberwolves signed Murry and Lucas, this means that one or two players have to be traded.
It is possible that Kevin Garnett will be retiring thus one spot is free. However, it is not possible that Dunn will be going anywhere since he is the number 5 pick in this year's draft so it comes down to Jones and Rubio.
It is unclear why Murry and Lucas were signed by the Minnesota Timberwolves as Dunking With The Wolves pointed out that both have had limited careers. Murry, a former Wichita State Shocker, played a total of 56 games for three teams. He averaged 2.6 points 0.9 assists, and 0.8 rebounds per game.
Lucas, on the other hand, has been with Chicago Bulls and Toronto Raptors in the past. He averages 4.7 points, 1.6 assists and 1 rebound per game.
These reports are yet to be confirmed by the Minnesota Timberwolves.
