‘Days Of Our Lives’ Cancellation News: NBC Axes Soap Opera Due To Continuous Drop In Ratings?

"Days of Our Lives," which is one of the longest running soap operas on TV, is rumored to be ending after Season 51. According to reports, NBC may be planning to end the show after its current season because of the continuous drop in ratings. Is it time to say goodbye to your favorite Salemites?

"Days of Our Lives" cancellation news reveal that the NBC soap opera may be coming to an end this 2016. Reports of the soap opera's cancellation began after many fans expressed their disappointment at the show's storylines.

The fans' disappointment with the show can be noticed in the continuous drop in the "Days of Our Lives" ratings. As Soap Opera Network reported, the total viewers for the current season of the series were significantly lower than the viewers last year.

"DOOL" spoilers reveal that the series was able to pull in 2,188,000 total viewers for the week of July 25-29, 2016. This was lower by 167,000 when compared to last year's ratings and the soap's ratings were also the lowest when compared to other soap operas such as "The Young and the Restless," "The Bold and the Beautiful" and "General Hospital."

This led to speculations that "Days" may be finally coming to an end after 51 seasons. So far, the show has been hailed as the longest running soap opera on TV.

Earlier this year, Deadline reported on the renewal of "Days of Our Lives" for Season 51 after the NBC soap opera celebrated its 50th anniversary on TV. Back then, NBC Entertainment president Jennifer Salke said that the network is very pleased with the show's performance in ratings and would like to see more of the show in the coming years.

"Days of Our Lives" airs Monday to Friday on NBC.
