It's already Season 6 and fans of the Harvey/Donna pairing on "Suits" are still waiting for a real development between the two. They had slept together prior to working at Pearson Hardman (now Pearson Specter Litt) years ago but chose to dismiss their attraction towards one another so as not to complicate their working relationship.
Harvey (Gabriel Macht) and Donna (Sarah Rafferty) have maintained their relationship at a professional and friendship level. "Suits" viewers witnessed the two's deep and special connection through their willingness to trust, support, and protect each other. But things got complicated when Harvey told Donna that he loves her (though he wouldn't say how), resulting to the executive assistant leaving the lawyer to work for Louis (Rick Hoffman).
In a recent interview with TVLine, Macht shared his thoughts on how Harvey loves Donna (is it on a purely platonic level or something more?) and how the lawyer needs to resume therapy with his psychiatrist Dr. Agard (Christina Cole). Harvey is currently working on getting Mike (Patrick J. Adams) out of prison, and it's not easy given that he's still dealing with "a lot of other demons in the closet."
The 44-year-old actor believes Harvey should resume therapy or "really get inside the nuts and bolts of his past." Macht said he would like "Suits" to look deeper at Harvey's personal life and not just his career as a lawyer.
Macht said Harvey has always needed Donna and looked at her as his "right-hand woman" and the "left brain to his right brain." Harvey probably doesn't know if he and Donna are romantically right for each other, and it's likely that his executive assistant would stop working for him if they pursue a romantic relationship because of her "I don't get involved with men that I work with" rule.
Knowing Harvey, working without Donna is bound to get him off the rails. Macht said a romance between them is possible if he "changed his line of business," adding that he likes how the idea of a Harvey/Donna relationship on "Suits" is "almost there" and then "not there."
As for Harvey's "I love you" to Donna in "Suits" Season 4, Macht said the lawyer doesn't know if that declaration means that he's "romantically in love" with her. The actor, however, is sure that Harvey loves Donna as his "friend," "sister," and "partner," mirroring her "I love you like a brother, or a cousin" to Harvey in "Suits" Season 2 -- despite the fact that they flirted and actually had sex with each other in the early years of their partnership. "Suits" Season 6 airs at 9/8c every Wednesday on the USA Network.
