‘Sherlock’ Season 4 Air Date, News & Update: BBC Benedict Cumberbatch Series Pits Holmes Against ‘Wayward Pines’ Star In Terrifying S4?

"Sherlock Season 4" will find BBC series star Benedict Cumberbatch as Holmes against "Wayward Pines" star Toby Jones believed to embody classic Arthur Conan Doyle villain Culverton Smith in S4. "Sherlock" executive producer-writer Steven Moffat and writer-actor Mark Gatiss (Mycroft Holmes) jointly pronounce Toby Jones' S4 villain to be pure evil personified.

Fans of the BBC series are familiar with the stable of villains showcased in earlier "Sherlock" seasons, foremost of whom was James Moriarty (Andrew Scott). As far as Benedict Cumberbatch is concerned, Holmes is terrified of James Moriarty and continues to be so even though the "Sherlock" villain is supposed to already be dead.

Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, however, promise that Toby Jones' "Sherlock Season 4" villain is the most evil yet in the BBC series. Bustle cites an interview by Collider with Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss on what fans of the BBC series can expect from Toby Jones in "Sherlock Season 4."

According to Mark Gatiss, "Sherlock" fans should know that Toby Jones' character being given rotten teeth is symbolic of the moral decay inside the "Wayward Pines" star's Season 4 villain. "Sherlock Season 4" will see Toby Jones' famed Culverton Smith challenge James Moriarty in the villainy department while Holmes and John Watson (Martin Freeman) scramble through the three-key theme of S4: Thatcher, Smith, Sherrinford.

Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss said that the BBC "Sherlock" series has never brought Holmes against a villain similar to Toby Jones' character. Steven Moffat said that fans of the BBC series will see Toby Jones terrifyingly at the most evil that the "Wayward Pines" star has ever been.

The "Sherlock Season 4" premiere will air on BBC in New Year 2017. Do you believe that Toby Jones could truly surpass James Moriarty in evilness come "Sherlock Season 4."
