The defending champions of the NFL, the Denver Broncos, have recently made significant changes to their stacked roster by cutting major role players from their team. The Broncos made the player cuts to fit their 53-man lineup ahead of the 2016-2017 regular season.
In order to abide by the 53- player per team rule in the NFL, the Denver Broncos had to let go of a couple of strong players who contributed much to the team's overall game. One of the key players who have been cut from the AFC Western Division heavyweights was running back, Juwan Thompson. Thompson made a decent contribution to the Broncos in the last contribution with over 5 carries, and was able to play as a running and a fullback, according to The Morning Ledger.
Thompson, who is now a free agent after the recent cut from the Broncos, says that the NFL arena is a tough business and one of the most competitive sports around. Thompson did not take the cut personally, and instead, saw it as an opportunity to test the waters of free agency and try out for the other NFL teams.
The Broncos made a total cut of 12 players, including other notable key players such as linebackers Eddie Yarbrough, Vontarrius Dora, Dwayne Norman, and Sadat Sulleyman. Other than the 12 players who are not cut from the team, quarterback Mark Sanchez was also released from the Broncos after they were unable to trade him.
Despite the significant cut, the Broncos still remain as a heavy-stacked team. Recently, the Broncos have acquired veteran quarterback Austin Davis in a one-year deal. Davis who was previously released by the Cleveland Browns, will add more depth to the Broncos offense, according to the NFL official website.
The Broncos will look to get back on top of the NFL this season as they face Super Bowl 50 rivals, the Carolina Panthers, in their first game of the season on September 9.
