'Death Stranding' Release Date, News & Update: Hideo Kojima To Integrate 'Metal Gear Solid 5' Vision In New Kojima Productions Game?

Recently at a Sony conference in Tokyo, Japan game development luminary Hideo Kojima revealed more information about his now project "Death Stranding." The game "Death Stranding" developed in collaboration with his newly resurrected studio Kojima Productions and Sony Computer entertainment will star "The Walking Dead" actor Norman Reedus, but up to now and other than that not much else is known.

According to Kotaku Hideo Kojima indicated that "Death Stranding" will include open world and online elements. To what extent is unclear, but fans of Hideo Kojima will no doubt interpret this to mean that "Death Stranding" is a continuation of the design pattern that has been evolving from the last couple of "Metal Gear" games directed by Kojima.

Since its inception on the MSX home computer in the late eighties, the "Metal Gear" series has been credited with popularizing the stealth genre of games. Hideo Kojima, a junior at the time, was trying to overcome the technical constraints of the hardware of the time by which he proposed the "avoid" means of engagement as opposed to "confront."

"Metal Gear Peace Walker" and last year's "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain," Hideo Kojima's stealth series had been moving progressively toward including more and more open world elements. By the time of "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain," the series had transitioned completely towards open world, and also included online elements.

Due to the bitter separation between Konami and Hideo Kojima, it was felt by many that Kojima's full vision of "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain" was cut short by Konami. Hideo Kojima's announcement at the Sony press conference suggests that Kojima will likely continue in gameplay what was presented and well received by "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain."

Particularly including what has since been developing in the mind of Hideo Kojima since the last, and by many seen as the last true, "Metal Gear" game. Although unstated, we can also expect a broad narrative from Hideo Kojima in "Death Stranding."

A release date for "Death Stranding" has not yet been provided. However, statements by Kojima Productions and Sony indicate a release of "Death Stranding" for PS4 and PC.
