Almost three months ago, many Vampire and Lycan fans were disappointed when Lakeshore Entertainment and Screen Gems announced that the initial pre-Halloween release of "Underworld: Blood Wars" on Oct. 14 was delayed to a much later date of Jan. 6, 2017. But now, fans will be thrilled as the sequel's first-ever poster and a new trailer were finally released.
Based on the poster, "Underworld: Blood Wars" actress Kate Beckinsale is reprising her role as Selene, who appeared much fiercer as she double-fisted weapons in a snowy white background. According to Screen Rant, the rumors about the sequel as the franchise's final installment remain uncertain.
The "Underworld: Blood Wars" trailer, on the other hand, was more interesting as Selene was seen inside what appeared like a metal cage. However, a massive chaos began when Selene fought a group of enemies in what Daily Mail called "hand-to-hand combat."
As for "Underworld: Blood Wars" synopsis, it hinted that "death dealer" Selene will not only face the attacks from feuding Vampire and Lycan clans but also make an "ultimate sacrifice" to stop the unending conflict between them. In fact, the sequel's tagline "Protect the Bloodline" could mean that Selene would be more than ready to sacrifice herself.
No further details about "Underworld: Blood Wars" plot have been released yet. But according to Collider, the title of the sequel apparently hinted an "all-out war" between the vampires, Lycans and the humans.
Meanwhile, "Underworld: Blood Wars" cast also include "Divergent" actor Theo James as David. Also joining Beckinsale and James in the sequel are James Faulkner, Peter Andersson, newcomer Clementine Nicholson, Bradley James, Daisy Head, Tobias Menzies, Lara Pulver and Charles Dance, Coming Soon noted.
In addition, "Underworld: Blood Wars" will be helmed by "Criminal Minds" director Anna Foerster while Cory Goodman penned the screenplay. Beckinsale's ex-husband Len Wiseman, on the other hand, is the film's producer along with Tom Rosenberg, Gary Lucchesi, Richard S. Wright and David Kern.
Since "Underworld: Blood Wars" release date has been delayed to Jan. 6, the sequel is set to spar against the premiere of Dimension Films' "Amityville: The Awakening" and Doug Liman and Tom Cruise's CIA thriller, "Mena." The sequel's initial release on Oct. 14 was in time for the release of Ben Affleck's latest flick, "The Accountant," JoBlo revealed.
