General Electric has now partnered with Amazon Echo's Alexa, in order for their users to control their appliances simply by using their voice. GE made the announcement on September 13 stating that their clients would now experience preheating an oven using voice commands.
According to CNN Money, people can already enjoy not using their hand when using their GE appliances. Even taking care of the laundry in the drier can now be controlled by voice. There are about 70 GE appliances that this system and new program would work on. This includes the following usual appliances that people use but are not limited to dishwashers and stoves. These appliances can function through a Wi-Fi and bluetooth connection in order for the voice command to be activated.
If you are wondering if your older GE appliances could work with this new technology, the answer is no. Unfortunately, only the new ones are applicable of this new feature since the new appliances are Wi-Fi enabled. This voice command feature is not at all promoting laziness to people, but it actually helps in alerting the owner of the appliances if there is something wrong with their item. For example is the dishwasher, it could alert its user if there is a leak going on in the said product.
CNET reported that Alexa could function in doing voice commands for appliances through the help of another tech avenue known as Geneva. It is a SKILL, which in the Alexa world could be likened as an app. Geneva is a joint project made by both GE and Amazon Echo. This is the coolest thing you could probably since all you need to do is tell Alexa to do whatever that you want to be done in your GE appliances. Command it saying, "Alexa, start defrosting the refrigerator."
