The Danger of the Internet: Know the Disturbing Effects of Internet Use and How It Negatively Effects the Brain

The Internet has become one of the most needed commodities as of this date as it has the capacity to connect people from all over the globe. It is also basically one of the most used tools when it comes to searching for answers.

Even though it may come with countless benefits, recent studies reveal that using too much internet can actually do more harm than good. The Internet is, in fact ,one of the easiest ways to access even the most complicated information, but one study suggests that it creates a negative impact on the brain.

In a study done by UC Santa Cruz and University of Illinois, published in the "Memory" journal, it was revealed that the internet highly affects an individual's capacity to solve, process and retain information. The study stated that it is difficult for the researchers to determine as to which information is processed by the brain, and which ones are fed by the information acquired from the internet.

Contrary to what was previously done, people used to retain the information that they have through their memory. It was then mentioned that as of this era, people can easily disregard the acquired information as they have it book marked on their devices, as mentioned in Psychology Today.

As individuals tend to rely more on the internet, it was mentioned they are more likely to rely on websites to provide easy answers rather than think of a solution. It may be quicker and easier to use the internet rather that one's memory.

Being reliant on technology, howeverm, can significantly impact the brain's capacity to store, process and disseminate information. In the research, participants are tested by giving them a set of questions to answer.

The variety of questions given to then ranges from difficulty to easy. The students were given the freedom to use the internet, which most of them did the moment they saw difficult questions.

It was then discovered that the students who used Google for the difficult trivia questions, relied on the internet the entire time the test was being conducted. It was then mentioned that the same students who solely relied on the internet didn't bother to make use of their stored memory even for simple questions.

The Internet is highly beneficial but using it too much can actually do more harm than good. It greatly affects the brain's capacity, which can result in long-term memory degeneration in the future.
