The repercussions of Alex Karev's brutal beat-up of Andrew DeLuca will affect his colleagues at Grey Sloan Memorial. In Season 13 of "Grey's Anatomy," the doctors and the whole staff in the hospital will be divided into two due to Alex's actions. Some friendships and relationships will be damaged as well.
Kelly McCreary, who portrays Maggie, told TVGuide.com that the upcoming season of "Grey's Anatomy" will feature the doctors at Grey Sloan dealing with the "notion that one of their own could have been so violent." The actress said Alex's (Justin Chambers) brutal behavior will lead to a "pretty intense fallout" that will cause "friction" among the doctors and will push them to choose sides.
The premiere episode of "Grey's Anatomy" Season 13 will pick up 10 minutes after the Season 12 finale, with a special focus on the immediate aftermath of DeLuca's injuries. Due to the extent of his wounds, doctors will scramble to take care of him in the ER. The new season will also focus on the show's remaining original cast members: Meredith (Ellen Pompeo), Alex, Bailey (Chandra Wilson), and Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.).
Meredith and Alex's friendship will be tested, too. As expected from close friends who have long histories together, Meredith's initial reaction is to empathize with Alex even though DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti) is seriously injured.
However, Meredith wouldn't exactly tolerate Alex's actions. As previously reported by Parent Herald, Meredith would make her colleague and friend realize that he could go to jail for his assault on DeLuca.
Maggie will be unconsciously putting Meredith in a difficult position in the upcoming season In the Season 12 finale of "Grey's Anatomy," Maggie admitted to her sister that she has feelings for Nathan (Martin Henderson), who Meredith had sex with.
According to McCreary, Maggie feels "great hope and optimism" while Meredith will still be in the processing stage, TVGuide.com further reported. McCreary added, "For the moment, it's like Maggie has sort of put Meredith between a rock and a hard place. ... She's going to face a major disappointment at some point."
April (Sarah Drew), meanwhile, will clash with Catherine (Debbie Allen) over the new baby as she and Jackson (Jesse Williams) are figuring out how to be parents to the newborn. Owen (Kevin McKidd) and Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) will also be in a good place in the season premiere, with the newly married couple enjoying their honeymoon.
