"Destiny: Rise of Iron" finally hit Bungie's online multiplayer first-person shooter earlier this week, with the expansion's new "Wrath of the Machine" raid finally unlocking last Friday. Now, to get ready for the new "Destiny: Rise of Iron" expansion, players have gone and went and revived an old exploit to get some new gear and get their light levels up.
When "Destiny: Rise of Iron" expansion hit on Tuesday, Sept. 20, it instituted some new tweaks to the overall gameplay mechanics for "Destiny" players. For one, the light level cap has now been increased to 385, while another change was how gear drops worked in relation to the item's light level.
As is standard for any online role-playing game, a character's or player's overall strength is defined by a specific number. Usually called something along the lines of "gear score" or "ilvl," the number is usually calculated by taking the average of the individual levels of a character's equipment pieces, and this system has remained the same in "Destiny: Rise of Iron" and its light levels.
What "Destiny: Rise of Iron" did change in gameplay is how gear drops work, as reported by Kotaku. When "Rise of Iron" hit, gear drops in "Destiny" now make it such that decrypted blue engrams drop can have light levels up to 365, compared to the unencrypted versions which cannot go past 340.
What makes the new system interesting is that it provides "Destiny: Rise of Iron" players an easier time to gear up for the "Rise of Iron" expansion's new "Wrath of the Machine" raid, which has a 360 light level recommendation. Currently, one of the best ways to farm gear to get to light level 360 is to run through the old Omnigul exploit, according to IGN's guide.
"Destiny: Rise of Iron" players must return to the "Will of Crota" strike, where they must immediately kill Omnigul on her first appearance without letting her escape. Succeeding will make Omnigul drop some gear, but the strike will not end which means that players can wipe and repeat for more drops, in conjunction with "Rise of Iron's" new drop system, to gear themselves up to 360 for "Wrath of the Machine."
