A new update has arrived to Bethesda's 2016 reboot of the "Doom" franchise; titled Free Update 3, the newest major content addition to the game finally brought with it some long sought after new game modes like Deathmatch and Private Matches.
Free Update 3 for "Doom" hit late this week, as reported by Attack of the Fanboy, and the patch carried with it some new game modes for the game's multiplayer aspect. "Doom" Free Update 3 carries a total of two major changes two multiplayer; one of them is the new Deathmatch game mode that features absolutely no player alliances, while the other is the ability to create Private Matches.
It wasn't that long ago when CNET reported earlier this month that Bethesda will be bringing a new update to "Doom." Bethesda even featured a Livestream promotion for Free Update 3 that showcased the patch's new Deathmatch and Private Matches game mode, alongside the future Arcade Mode coming in a later patch.
According to the official post on Bethesda's website, Free Update 3's Deathmatch is a completely free-for-all game type allowing for maximum carnage. "Doom" has long had a Deathmatch game type, but it was purely team-based which meant that could only gun for the opposing team.
With the Deathmatch game mode in Free Update 3 however, "Doom" players can now participate in full-fledged free-for-all murderous mayhem with no teams or alliances getting in the way. OF course, that won't stop some cunning players from forming unofficial alliances to get one up on the competition; then proceeding to gun their partner down to be the sole winner.
Free Update 3's new Private Matches feature will now allow "Doom" players to essentially design their own game modes. With Private Matches, players can create their own match type and set their preferred specifications and limitations, like time limits or score limits, and then share them with their friends.
To celebrate the arrival of "Free Update 3," Bethesda is currently holding a Double XP Weekend event for "Doom" players worldwide. The Double XP Weekend event began Friday, Sept. 23 and will run through the weekend until Monday, Sept. 26 12 p.m. ET.
