‘This Is Us’ Episode 3 Promo & What To Expect: Mandy Moore & Milo Ventimiglia On Heartbreaking Episode 2 Cliffhanger

The second episode of "This Is Us" titled "The Big Three" completely shocked viewers. The emotional twist at the end of the episode mirrored what occurred in the premiere, which connected the dots and revealed to the audience that the five characters presented to the audience actually belong to the same family: Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) and Rebecca (Mandy Moore) and their three children -- Kate (Chrissy Metz), Kevin (Justin Hartley), and Randall (Sterling K. Brown).

Jack and Rebecca's epic romance unfolds in the late '70s, while the Big Three's story occurs in present day. The second "This Is Us" episode fast-forwarded the Jack-Rebecca story to several years ahead, a time when raising their three children proved to be a challenge. Jack is also having drinking problems, with his best friend/counselor, Miguel (Jon Huertas), reminding him how shouldn't take his nearly perfect life and spouse for granted.

Miguel's advice seemed to do the trick and Jack and Rebecca's marriage was once again rekindled. The shocking turn, however, occurred at the end of episode two.

In there, the adults' story intersected with the kids for the first time. One of Randall's children yelled, "Grandma and Grandpa are here!" As viewers prepared to see the older versions of Jack and Rebecca, they were greeted by the sight of Rebecca -- and Miguel -- at the door.

Talking about the shocking twist in episode two of "This Is Us," Moore said that the course of Jack and Rebecca's relationship is "very much open-ended" and that it will have "so many question marks," Entertainment Weekly reported. Ventimiglia, meanwhile, said that the late '80s will be an important fixture in the characters' lives.

The actor told EW that these people have "definitely evolved" since they were introduced in the pilot, but there will be a "disconnect" between them. Ventimiglia, however, believes that Jack still deeply loves Rebecca.

Added Moore, episode two of "This Is Us" highlighted the seeds of what kind of people the characters will grow into in the future. For instance, Randall's perfectionism was hinted at, while Kate was seen having issues with food.

"This Is Us" creator, Dan Fogelman, told EW that viewers will get to see how Jack and Rebecca's seemingly perfect love story unfolded into something so broken. He assured the audience that the couple's separation has "more to it all than that" and more questions about the family's life will pop up in later episodes.

"This Is Us" recently received a full-season order (18 episodes) from NBC, TVGuide reported. Watch the promo for episode three below. The series airs Tuesdays at 10/9c.
