Netflix and Marvel's "The Punisher" series has apparently started rolling the cameras. Leaked photos from the set reveal that production for the Jon Bernthal-starrer has proceeded as scheduled and it's happening around the Brooklyn area.
The photos, which were published on Just Jared, show the actor as the bearded Frank Castle -- a.k.a. The Punisher -- in the character's trademark black hoodie. He's also seen surrounded by a film crew as work gets underway.
But Comic Book reports that the production is using "Crime" as its working title, perhaps to dissuade fans from thinking it is "The Punisher" set. However, Jon Bernthal's shooting schedule for Netflix and Marvel was already confirmed back in September, per Slash Film. The site reports that the actor would begin work on a Netflix series by October, which can only mean one thing -- it's "The Punisher."
"The Punisher" first appeared as a supporting but pivotal character in the second season of "Daredevil" on Netflix, which was released in March. Back then, Jon Bernthal was not yet sure he would be reprising the role. But because of the fans' response to the character, Netflix decided on giving the actor his own series.
It's still unclear if "The Punisher" will also figure in other Netflix and Marvel productions, such as "The Defenders," "Luke Cage," or "Iron Fist." However, the possibility is always open considering that these shows happen in the same universe.
In the meantime, fans of "The Punisher" can begin celebrating as production has begun. It is speculated that "The Punisher's" first season will be released on Netflix in 2017.
Aside from Jon Bernthal, "The Punisher" will also star Ben Barnes as Bobby Saint. Check out a scene from Netflix's "Daredevil," where Frank Castle/The Punisher first appeared, in the video below.
