With the season debut for "Luke Cage" being generally well-received by the critics, there is little doubt that a second season is on the run for the show. But without the official greenlight from Netflix, the question remains: will the fans be seeing the third defender for a second series? And how soon could they really expect the season 2 of "Luke Cage?"
Set in the 1970s Harlem, the first season was released on the 30th September 2016 and it narrates the origin story of how Luke Cage became a superhero with super strength and bulletproof skin. Luke Cage was first introduced in Jessica Jones back in late 2015 and he follows the titular characters of "Daredevil" and "Jessica Jones" as the third defender in a Marvels/Netflix series of shows leading to the Defenders crossover miniseries.
Aside from the rave reviews it received, the first season ends with a pretty good setup for a potential second season. Add to that the fact that the other defenders are having incoming either third or second season, the odds for "Luke Cage" are very good.
So when could we hope to get the season 2 of "Luke Cage?" It could be well more than a year given that the Marvel/Netflix schedule is pretty full. According to What's On Netflix, the Defenders are planned to be released on 2017 while the season 2 for "Jessica Jones" and season 3 of "Daredevil" are set for 2018. So unless the second season of "Luke Cage" is set before the next seasons of the first and second defenders, fans might not be seeing it until 2019.
