"Westworld," by producers Joy Nolan and J.J.Abrams premiered on HBO with a strong amount of viewers. HBO's new science fiction-drama, which stars Evan Rachel Wood (Dolores), lured audiences with a heavy kick off of bloodbath and intense story on its first 15 minutes.
Violence, rape, love and human-like robots are the main scope of the "Westworld" premiere. The "Westworld" series is based on the 1973 film by Michael Crichton about an artificial world created by Dr. Robert Ford
This has a historical setting of early 1900's in the Wild West, hence "Westworld." The human-like robots are called the hosts and they have scripts to follow to create an actual storyline of their lives.
The setting is a big theme park called Westworld where all the hosts live. Guests come to Westworld to pay an expensive amount and indulge their desires, whether it's violence or sexual interaction.
The main character of "Westworld," Dolores gave an outlook of life from her perspective. "I choose to see the beauty, to believe there's an order to our days, a purpose," Dolores said.
Dolores is the oldest host in the Westworld. The hosts are artificial intelligence technologies and are being controlled by their creators, yet something is not quite right with the update.
Dolores' host father, Peter Abernathy ( Louis Herthum), who also lives his life in a loop in Westworld went off-script as he tries to figure out the real reason why they exist. Peter then whispered in Dolores' ear about what he figured out.
After the creators, Dr. Ford (Anthony Hopkins) and Bernard Lowe (Jeffrey Wright), found out about the Westworld script not being followed by more than 10 of theirs hosts.Westworld became chaotic and created more violence.
Upgraded hosts were recalled and interviewed to brief the AI about their Westworld function. The "Westworld" premiere ended with Dolores killing a fly, which makes it a sign of something stirring up, due to hosts core code "do not harm."
"Westworld" premiered to 3.3 million viewers on multiple platforms, a million more than HBO's True Detective" in 2014. "Westworld" also beat "Game of Thrones" when it first aired on television with 2.2 million viewers. However, Game of Thrones' recent season has attracted 23.3 million viewers on its premiere, according to BBC.
The "Westworld" premiere set emotional reactions on Twitter that led to Nielsen recording 28,636 tweets about the show. More than 11,000 of the responses were emotional.
The fans reactions spiked during the "Westworld" premiere's final minutes, reported by Variety. The celebrities are also hooked on Westworld including Reese Witherspoon.
HBO's newest drama cast include the finest actors in the industry namely Anthony Hopkins, Evan Rachel Wood, Ed Harris, Jeffrey Wright, James Marsden, Thandie Newton and Rodrigo Santoro. The second episode will air Sunday, 9PM, 9th of October on HBO.
Now we know the Westworld's hosts live on a loop with a script. With an update making the Westworld AI start to think more humanly, what may be the threat of this?
