Disney's "Princess Diaries 3" has been much buzzed about at the start of the year. However, the frenzy seemed to have mellowed down since the passing of director Garry Marshall. Chris Pine, who was paired with Anne Hathaway in the second "Princess Diaries," is unaware of where the film is at the moment.
In a recent interview with Huffington Post, Chris Pine said that there have been no official talks of him returning to do "Princess Diaries 3" with Disney just yet. "Garry [Marshall] passed this year, so I'm not really thinking about much about the film as I am thinking about a man who I really loved and gave me my first start in film," the actor said. He also hinted that the sequel's return to production might be uncertain.
In March, Garry Marshall, Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews discussed a potential "Princess Diaries 3" with the main character, Princess Mia, navigating the challenges of being a grownup. Before the director died, he said that all that remains was for Disney to greenlight "Princess Diaries 3" as most of the actors from the original movie have signaled their intent to do the sequel.
People reports that Chris Pine was assured he would be part of "Princess Diaries 3" when talks about it first surfaced. Pine and Marshall have a personal connection. "His father I know, I've seen him in plays. Chris Pine and my kids went to similar schools, so I knew him as a kid," Garry Marshall told People in one of his last interviews.
Chris Pine played Nicholas Devereaux in the second installment of "Princess Diaries." His character was Princess Mia's romantic partner. Although the pair shared a romantic kiss in the ending, it's quite unclear whether the couple got married eventually.
It is said that Anne Hathaway wanted to do "Princess Diaries 3" because she herself is a grownup dealing with life's challenges. At that time the actress talked with Marshall for "Princess Diaries 3," Anne Hathaway was awaiting the birth of her first child.
