From the much-loved disney animated movies like Cinderella, Maleficent, The Jungle Book and now Beauty in the Beast in the works, humor has it that Mulan would set foot on the live action frenzy. Reports say that definitely, Disney would prefer it to be as Asian as it should.
In a report recently published by Vanity Fair, Disney just greenlighted its search for the next princess Mulan to star in the upcoming live-action reboot. The studio clarified that the actress would be, and definitely should be Chinese. Just like the original ballad, based on the Chinese legend.
The brouhaha began when rumors spread that they will feature "a white male lead" in Mulan reboot. But contrary to that, Vanity Fair report claimed that Disney would choose a Chinese male actor to top bill the show, after all.
According to the report, someone claimed that that they just read a Mulan spec script and was posted on a website dubbed as "Angry Asian Man" through an open letter. A phrase that went like "a 30-something European trader" who falls in love with young Mulan sparked the issue.
While, the tweet of support from actor, Joel De La Fuente added fuel to the fire, when he openly announced that he had read the same spec script. "I can back you up on what you're saying. I confirm everything you said about that draft," the tweet read posted on Vanity Fair.
So what should the international viewers expect? Surely, fans of the long-awaited comeback would rejoice to know that their childhood heroine film will stay true to its nature.
According to the report, an unidentified source claimed that they won't conform to what the spec script says. But, they would stick to making the live-action Mulan, with both the leads and primary roles, Chinese.
