The famed "Call of Duty" franchise will be once again releasing a new instalment in the series in the coming year, and the 2017 game will be set in Vietnam, possibly during the time of the Vietnam War.
Rumors of the new "Call of Duty" game have surfaced, and are hinting that the new chapter of the franchise, which is said to be released in November of 2017, will be set in Vietnam. According to Frag Hero, the developers of the new "Call of Duty" game, Sledgehammer Games, have picked up the arc of the 2017 from a previously canned title called "Call of Duty: Fog of War," which was supposed to be set in Laos.
Due to the issues during the development for "Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare," the development for the "Fog of War" game was paused, and the arc was ultimately cancelled. Now that "Infinite Warfare" is finished and will soon be released, Activision's focus is now on the next instalment of the franchise.
According to Game Transfers, Sledgehammer Games has spent a lot of time to document the Vietnam War to release a game that transcends the usual shooting and killing enemies and do justice to how deeply damaging the war was. If this were to be true, then it will take some time for the new "Call of Duty" title to be released.
The "Call of Duty" franchise was initially made popular by its gritty and gripping storylines, coupled with great action, based on World War II events, with plot arcs such as the Normandy Landing during D-Day in 1944 and Operation Overlord of the Normandy Battles on "Call of Duty" and "Call of Duty 2," respectively. It has captured the hearts of their fans and has since started a loyal following for the first person war shooter.
The franchise has now moved on to the approach of having more futuristic angles since 2014, with the release of "Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare," which was a critically acclaimed title but was far from the World War II roots of the "Call of Duty" franchise. Since then, fans have begged for a return to the original grittiness of the first few games.
"Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare" will be released on Nov. 4, 2016.
