'Enchanted' Sequel 'Disenchanted' Finds Director, Amy Adams Fairy Tale Begins Production Early 2017

Disney's sequel to "Enchanted" has been given a new title. Called "Disenchanted," the movie starring Amy Adams will begin filming in early 2017. Disney has also hired director Adam Shankman for the sequel. Production comes exactly 10 years after the first movie was released.

Adam Shankman is going to helm the follow up to the 2007 family fantasy film "Enchanted." The director himself confirmed on his Twitter account following speculations of the negotiation. Before this project, Shankman will be busy working on the NBC live musical "Hairspray, " which is set to air on the network this December.

Meanwhile, now called "Disenchanted" instead of "Enchanted 2," the musical sequel is expected to bring Amy Adams back as the animated princess Giselle from Andalasia. In the first film, Princess Giselle was transported to the real world in New York, where she met and eventually fell in love with a single dad named Robert (Patrick Dempsey).

"Disenchanted" will have Pincess Giselle agonizing over her "happily ever after" with Robert, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Events will take place that will change the course of the lives of everyone in Giselle's real world and in her animated world in Andalasia.

Meanwhile, Disney is expecting "Disenchanted" to begin production in early 2017 to meet its planned 2018 theater release. One of the factors to its popularity is its music, which was created by Alan Menken. It's still unclear whether Menken will be back for the "Enchanted" sequel. The composer is currently working on the music for another Disney project, "Little Mermaid," with Lin-Manuel Miranda, Parent Herald reports.

"Enchanted" earned over $340 billion at the box office and has an 80 percent audience rating from Rotten Tomatoes. Aside from Adams and Dempsey, the movie also starred Susan Sarandon, James Marsden and Idina Menzel. Their participation in "Disenchanted" is still unknown at this point.
