Many music enthusiasts, especially those who are into "Nerdcore" hip-hop are offended with the comment made by "Jeopardy" host, Alex Trebek. Alex Trebek made fun of fans of that type of music by refer to them as losers.
On Wednesday, October 12 episode of "Jeopardy", host Alex Trebek made that comment after one of the contestants admitted that she is a fan of "Nerdcore" hip-hop. Alex Trebek called the contestant "loser" but she just laughed it off thinking that it was just a joke. The contestant, Susan Cole didn't make such comment an issue but apparently angered pioneer "Nerdcore" artists MC Chris and Mega Ran.
According to MC Chris, "Nerdcore" is a genre that has been in existence for around 15 years. MC Chris has been on tour for the 10th year, with his album "MC Chris is dreaming" making it to Number 2 on Billboard comedy charts this week. Although not mainstream hip-hop that most listeners know, "Nerdcore" hip-hop is real and is an artistic way of representing someone's "nerdy" side, shared by Billboard.
Music genre called "Nerdcore" hip-hop is a kind of music that normally tackles subjects that are typically described as nerdy or geeky. "Nerdcore" can also be called as "geeksta rap" patterned after "gansta rap". The performers of "Nerdcore" usually would refer to themselves as nerds or geeks but still want to be seen by the public as cool. "Nerdcore" artists would usually sing about science fiction movies, gaming, science and computers. The roots of "Nerdcore" began back in 1990, but the term was coined back in 2000 by MC Frontalot according to WiseGEEK.
Many believe that "Jeopardy" host Alex Trebek should have been more sensitive in respective people's preference in the music they listen to and has to right to refer to anyone as a "loser". This comment of Alex Trebek made the rounds in social media referring to it as disrespectful. There is still no word from Alex Trebek to explain his side of story.
