PlayStation 4 Media Player will now have an option of uploading your 360-degree photos and videos after its update done on October 13. Reportedly, the PlayStation 4 owners can load their content onto USB stick or local media server and activate "VR Mode."
According to the PlayStation Blog, if the PlayStation VR is connected to PlayStation 4, the user must activate 'VR mode' from Media Player's Options menu, then select your 360° video or photo from media server or USB device.
The PlayStation VR will launch at retail worldwide this week, which will support 3D video and photos accompanied with Sony's PS4-compatible virtual reality headset. PlayStation VR will deliver realistic virtual reality games and experiences using a camera setup that tracks the position and movement of the player's illuminated headset.
The blog notes that the 360-degree media on PlayStation VR can support video - MKV, AVI, MP4, MPEG2 PS , MPEG2 TS, AVCHD - or photo - JPEG, BMP, PNG - files that must be captured in equirectangular format by a 360-degree omnidirectional camera. It is assumed that the YouTube app will eventually allow 360-degree playback via the PlayStation VR, and content from VR specialist VRSE is widely expected to become available as well.
There will be an enhancement in the audio experience also. After the update the PS4 Media Player will support High-Res (FLAC) audio files and also non-FLAC music to near high-resolution audio quality.
Sony's DSEE HXTM technology will also add much value. The MP3s or AACs - files will be automatically upscaled. "What this means is any MP3s or AACs - files whose space-saving compression strips out some of a song's subtleties - played through your PlayStation 4 will be automatically upscaled," Sony states.
This means the compressed music will now sound much richer as a result get more in-depth breakdown on how the technology works here. PlayStation 4's Media Player v2.50 update will be available for free to all PS4 users from 13th October.
