The Season 3 premiere of "Jane the Virgin" will tackle the cliffhangers left behind by the previous season. Michael's (Brett Dier) fate after getting shot will be revealed in the premiere episode and Xo's (Andrea Navedo) pregnancy woes will be highlighted as well.
In an interview with TVLine, "Jane the Virgin" executive producer Jennie Snyder Urman said that Michael's survival is "a central question" in the first episode of Season 3. As he fights for his life, the episode will showcase flashbacks that serve as the milestones of him and Jane's (Gina Rodriguez) relationship. "Jane the Virgin" viewers will learn plenty of "unexpected things about the beginning of their relationship."
Urman revealed that the premiere episode of "Jane the Virgin" Season 3 is both "devastating" and "very emotional." Michael's fate will be revealed by the end of the season opener and Urman guaranteed that it's "a pretty harrowing journey" for the characters and for the audience, Yahoo! TV reported.
On the other hand, Xo's pregnancy will begin with a huge question on "Jane the Virgin" Season 3: who is the baby's father? Is it her true love and former flame, Rogelio (Jaime Camil), or Rogelio's nemesis, Esteban (Keller Wortham)?
Another complication that will be raised on "Jane the Virgin" Season 3 is whether Xo wants to face another motherhood journey again. She doesn't want to have another child and whatever her decision is will produce mixed reactions from the people around her.
"She's very clear about whether or not she wants to have a baby. Xo makes a choice that we'll be exploring. After that choice, there are a lot of ramifications. Whether she has [the baby] or doesn't, a lot of people agree or don't agree," Urman explained, per TVLine.
Jane and Rafael (Justin Baldoni) will continue to do their best in parenting Mateo in Season 3 of "Jane the Virgin." However, Rafael will come to some important realizations that will muddle his parenting dynamic with Jane in "good, interesting, challenging ways."
Petra (Yael Grobglas) will still be in her "Petrafied" state thanks to her twin sister, Anezka. In the Season 2 finale of "Jane the Virgin," Anezka injected her with a paralytic that makes her conscious of what's happening around her but she can't move or speak.
Petra needs shots every certain amount of hours to maintain her state and there will be drama about whether Anezka can keep that schedule or not in the upcoming "Jane the Virgin" season. Meanwhile, Anezka will have the dirt she needs to successfully blackmail Rafael and obtain a huge amount of money.
"Jane the Virgin" returns for Season 3 on Oct. 17, Monday at 9 PM on The CW. Watch the promo below.
