The third season of "Jane the Virgin" will address the cliffhangers of Season 2. Though the upcoming season will be filled with twists and turns, exciting stuff is also coming along the way.
Xo (Andrea Navedo) will land an audition for the popular singing competition "The Voice" on Season 3 of "Jane the Virgin," giving her a chance to finally fulfill her dreams of becoming a singer, TVGuide.com reported. But as happy as this news is, Jane (Gina Rodriguez) will also have to deal with the aftermath of Michael's (Brett Dier) shooting.
Michael was gunned down by Rose a.k.a. Sin Rostro (Bridget Regan), who at the time was disguised as his cop partner, Susanna (Megan Ketch). The shooting occurred after Jane and Michael's grand wedding and moments before they consummated their marriage. Thankfully, Michael appears to have survived the shooting, judging from how Dier was included in the photos shared by the cast while preparing for Season 3, Parent Herald previously reported.
"Jane the Virgin" showrunner and creator Jennie Snyder Urman revealed that Season 3 will pick up four minutes after the events of the Season 2 finale, according to Entertainment Weekly. As if her love triangle woes including Michael and Rafael (Justin Baldoni) aren't enough, a man from Jane's past before she met Michael will reappear in her life.
Speaking about Jane finally losing her virginity (a highly anticipated moment in the show), Urman admitted that it's keeping her "up at night" because they want to give "real expectations" to the viewers. Urman confirmed that Jane will have sex during the first half of Season 3, though she didn't disclose who will be Jane's partner.
"Jane the Virgin" Season 3 will be about "growing up in a real, deeper way," with all of the characters "taking major steps forward," EW further reported. It's bound to be emotional for Jane, too.
Rodriguez revealed that there is a hospital scene where Jane will have a huge breakdown. The 32-year-old actress said that the cheerful Jane will be in "the lowest of lows" come Season 3, adding that her character's upcoming emotional arc will be "very heavy."
According to Urman, Season 3 will showcase flashbacks from the early days of Jane and Michael's courtship. Viewers will know how the couple's past heavily affects their present.
Aside from the romance, the show will feature an epic "dragged-out fight" that is commonly seen in classic telenovelas. Jane will also retrace her Abuela Alba's (Ivonne Coll) immigration voyage.
There will be scenes with songs from the '70s and groovy fashions. "Jane the Virgin" Season 3 premieres on Monday, Oct. 17 at 9/8c on The CW.
