Netflix 'A Series Of Unfortunate Events' Season 1 News: ASOUE Ramps Up Ad Campaign With Various VFD-Related Sites

Netflix's "A Series of Unfortunate Events" is pulling a sneaky one! The TV show is ramping up its ad campaign by registering various VFD-related sites on the web. Most of these sites are still not live, but fans have been wondering what Netflix and the people behind the ASOUE TV adaptation plan to do. Could these sites figure in the show at some point? Is there a plan to make "A Series of Unfortunate Events" more interactive to viewers?

As Parent Herald previously reported, the first hint that a VFD-related site -- Veryflammabledandelions.com -- existed was when the new "A Series of Unfortunate Events" teaser featuring Patrick Warburton (Lemony Snicket) was launched last Oct. 4. But fans are saying there are actually more sites.

Desventuras em Série Brasil has listed those that have been found, and so far, the number of VFD-related sites for "A Series of Unfortunate Events" have increased to 36. "To date, the websites only show an error message, redirecting the (unwise) user to Netflix," the Facebook page stated.

These VFD-related sites on "A Series of Unfortunate Events" all refer to different things in the book series that the show is based from. These are codes and messages that point to a conspiracy and a secret organization, VFD.

So, what is this group all about, really? The AV Club writes, in 2012, that VFD is used repeatedly in the books as a tool to further the narrative of "A Series of Unfortunate Events." Fans of ASOUE can draw whatever meaning they would like to put to VFD. ASOUE author Daniel Handler also used VFD to demonstrate his mastery at wordplay. But in the book itself, the VFD organization did both good and bad things.

This is one of the many reasons why fans are looking forward to the TV adaptation of "A Series of Unfortunate Events" because it's not going to be easy translating what goes on in the books in the small screen. Will Netflix be able to pull off something that will please ASOUE's loyal readers?

"A Series of Unfortunate Events" launches on Friday, Jan. 13 on Netflix. There will be eight episodes to the first season, which covers books one to four of ASOUE. Pre-production for "A Series of Unfortunate Events" Season 2 is also underway. Stay tuned and keep checking this site for more news!
