The LeBron James banner on the Sherwin-Williams building will be replaced this Friday with a version that includes a patch of the Larry O'Brien trophy on the back of the superstar's uniform to signify the Cleveland Cavaliers' NBA championship conquest last season.
Sherwin-Williams building is across the Quicken Loans Arena, where the Cavs will be playing their first game for the season against the New York Knicks on Oct. 25. The title banner will also be unveiled on the same day. NBA.com. reported that LeBron James and the rest of the Cavaliers will receive their championship rings on Oct. 25 as well.
The Cavaliers are expected to field a starting lineup against the Knicks consisting of LeBron James, Tristan Thompson, Kyrie Irving, J.R. Smith, and Kevin Love. Other members of the team are Iman Shumpert, Channing Frye, Richard Jefferson, Mike Dunleavy, Kay Felder, Chris Anderson, Kay Felder, Jordan McRae, and James Jones. Leading players to earn the final roster spots are DeAndre Liggins and Dahntay Jones.
The massive LeBron James mural was installed in October 2014 after he re-signed with the Cavaliers. The said mural features a black-and-white image of the superstar, his muscular arms outstretched. It is 10-stories tall and has become a tourist attraction. Back in 2010, after signing with the Heat, the original LeBron banner was taken down.
Sherwin-Williams announced that work to bring down the old LeBron James banner will begin on Monday and will continue until Wednesday. The superstar's new banner will be delivered on Thursday and lifted to the building's roof. FOX8 reported that installation will be completed by Friday, 5 pm.
A few months ago, there were plans to temporarily bring down the massive LeBron James banner in time for the Republican convention and be replaced with one that states "This Land Is Our Land: 150 Years in Cleveland." However, according to SB Nation, due to resistance from Cavaliers and LeBron James fans, Sherwin-Williams kept the LeBron James banner up during the convention.
