"Spider-Man" actor Tobey Maguire and his wife, Jennifer Meyer, are no longer together as they ended their nine years of being married. The two released a joint statement regarding the split saying that their children are their priority.
Us Weekly reported that the joint statement of the former couple said that they underwent a lot of soul searching as well as consideration before they have made up their minds with the decision to separate as a couple. They added, "As devoted parents, our first priority remains raising our children together with enduring love, respect and friendship."
According to a source, the decision was amicable and there was no drama between the two. It was also not sudden but it was unclear for how long the former couple contemplated on separating. They are reportedly committed to remaining as friends for their children. Maguire and Meyer also reportedly went back and forth with their decision but came to a realization that this is where their relationship stands and that the reason behind the split was because they grew apart.
Forty-one-year-old Maguire and 39-year-old Meyer met in 2003 and tied the knot in Hawaii four years after. They exchanged their vows in front of family and friends. The two have a daughter, nine-year-old Ruby, and a son, seven-year-old Otis.
The two have been very private about their relationship as well as their family life. In 2007, however, DiCaprio talked about being a father after appearing on the "Late Show With David Letterman." He noted that being a father is a very dramatic change calling Ruby an adorable baby, E! News reported.
In 2013, he also said in an interview that he balances his home life and his career by doing what he does but letting his children stay in school and make friends. He noted that he also does not make decisions for his family and his career based on conditions.
They are yet to reveal more details about their split.
