"The Americans" Season 5 is adding two new characters. "The Walking Dead" actress Lauren Holden and "Mistresses" actor Brett Tucker will be in recurring episodes when the show returns. FX has not yet revealed the air date for the fifth season, but it is expected to be back in early 2017.
Lauren Holden will play the role of Renee, who will be romantically linked to FBI agent Stan (Noah Emmerich) in "The Americans." TV Line reports that Stan will meet her at the gym and she's described as the type of girl who loves guy stuff like sports, fishing and beer.
Stan hasn't had a romantic partner in "The Americans" in a while, following his divorce and the capture and eventual death of his lover Nina (Annet Mahendru). Whether Renee sticks around remains to be seen. Fans are already speculating Renee is also a Russian spy like Stan's best friends and neighbors, Elizabeth (Keri Russell) and Philip (Matthew Rhys).
Lauren Holden already teased her new character on "The Americans" in a Twitter post. Her addition to the show is a reunion of sorts for her and Noah Emmerich. The actor worked with Holden in an early season of "The Walking Dead" as the CDC doctor Edwin Jenner.
Meanwhile, Deadline reports that Australian-born actor Brett Tucker will join "The Americans" as the scientist Ben Stobert. Described as "charming, intelligent, and passionate," the character has a deeper significance in the new season's storyline. It looks like he will also be in the show for more than one episode.
"The Americans" has already started filming Season 5 in early October. The spy series has been confirmed to air until Season 6 on FX. The show has been recognized as one of the best drama series on air at the recent Emmy Awards. Stick around for more news on "The Americans" on this site.
