The end of "Supernatural" is probably a long way away but lead stars Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki already have ideas about what they want to see from the series' finale. The two actors want their former boss and "Supernatural" creator Eric Kripke to write the series finale.
Padalecki, who portrays Sam in the long-running CW series, told TVLine that he would "love to see Eric come back and give his opinion" when "Supernatural" starts to "wrap down." The actor said that Kripke's return "would be an honor" because he created the show in the first place.
Ackles, who plays Dean, echoed his co-star's thoughts. He said that it "would be a nice little bow on top of the whole thing" to have Kripke write "Supernatural" out.
Kripke left his showrunner duties on "Supernatural" six years ago and is now leading NBC's new drama "Timeless." When asked if he's interested in writing the series finale for "Supernatural," Kripke admitted that he fantasizes about returning to the show and co-writing its swan song. There are, however, some matters to take into consideration.
"But obviously that depends on what [executive producer] Bob Singer wants, what [co-showrunner] Andrew Dabb wants [and] what I'm doing at the time. But yes, the idea of it would be cool, if possible," Kripke continued, as quoted by TVLine.
"Supernatural" is known for bringing back characters from seasons past and that will be the case once again in Season 12. The news was confirmed by Ackles during EW's PopFest in Los Angeles this weekend, saying that "there are plans" to "bring back a few" of fan-favorite characters in "Supernatural" Season 12, Entertainment Weekly reported.
Dean and Sam recently got their hearts broken again when their newly resurrected mother Mary (Samantha Smith) chose to temporarily part ways with them in the end of "The Foundry." Dean was becoming too protective of his mother, often asking her to stay behind during hunting trips even though Mary is a skilled hunter.
According to BuddyTV, Mary's departure could hopefully make Dean smother her less and by the time she comes back, he'll be less extreme and more trusting of her instincts. However, episode four of "Supernatural" titled "American Nightmare" will still showcase Dean struggling to accept Mary's decision.
"Supernatural" episode four will see Dean and Sam on a case about "a devout religious family that lives off the grid," Spoiler TV reported. The Winchester brothers will "realize that the parents are hiding a huge secret that could destroy them all."
"American Nightmare" airs on Thursday, Nov. 3.
