"Westworld" is just four episodes in but the internet is already abuzz with plot theories about the HBO series. One "Westworld" theory centers on Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) and the possibility that she has two bodies.
The Dolores theory came from Donna Dickens of HitFix. "Westworld" viewers already know that Bernard (Jeffrey Wright) has this habit of secretly talking to Dolores deep in the bowels of the park's corporate offices.
It seems odd that Dr. Ford (Anthony Hopkins) -- or any employee, for that matter -- is not aware of these secret meetings. These interactions between Dolores and Bernard also heavily hint that the secret meetings have taken place so many times, judging from Dolores saying in "Westworld" episode four that she and Bernard have read plenty of books together.
There's also the matter of Bill (Michael Wincott), the decommissioned Host in cold storage that Ford talks to whenever he needs a good listening ear. Bill is the second Host built in Westworld, with Dolores as the first.
It's puzzling that Bill was stashed away (probably due to this software or hardware malfunctioning) but Dolores (the oldest Host) remains as a fully functioning robot in the park. Clearly, she has been upgraded so many times over the years but like computers or other electronic gadgets, there will come a time when a Host's hardware becomes so used up that it has to be replaced entirely.
This is where the second Dolores body theory comes in. It's possible that Dolores' brain was uploaded into a newer Host body to continue functioning in Westworld, and the old Dolores body has been decommissioned. Bernard obviously has a deep interest in Dolores on "Westworld," and instead of sneaking Dolores 2.0 away from the Abernathy farm he simply transfers her consciousness to Dolores 1.0 while she's sleeping.
This "Westworld" theory explains why Dolores' secret meetings with Bernard feature her wearing her blue dress instead of a nightgown. It also explains why Bernard always tells her to bring herself back online and why she refers to these secret meetings as a dream.
Technically, those are indeed dreams because her 2.0 body is still at the farm. This "Westworld" theory also gives two meanings to Bernard ending their conversation with needing to bring Dolores back before anyone notices she's gone.
Episode five of "Westworld" titled "Contrapasso" airs on Sunday, Oct. 30. What do you think of this "Westworld" theory? Share your thoughts and check out new photos and a promo for the upcoming episode below.
