The third season of "The Fall" finally came to an end this week. The BBC series also bid goodbye to serial killer Paul Spector (Jamie Dornan) and his twisted cat-and-mouse game with Stella Gibson (Gillian Anderson).
The finale of "The Fall" Season 3 showcased Spector savagely punching Gibson into a bloody heap after she taunted his dark psyche in the interview room, according to The Telegraph. The Belfast Strangler's monstrosity was displayed once again when he came back to the detention center, where he violently attacked Dr. Larson (Krister Henriksson) and stole his belt in the process. Paul then fashioned a noose out of the stolen belt, put a plastic bag over his head, and strangled himself.
It was revealed on "The Fall" that Spector indeed had amnesia that made him unable to remember his Belfast Strangler killings. His conversation with Larson - about his condition being incurable - was probably the reason why Paul chose to end his life, making him realize that he could never escape his murderous alter ego.
"The Fall" viewers are stumped as to how the show will continue without one of its two main characters. Did the audience saw the last of "The Fall?" Is a fourth season taking place? How will that play out without Dornan? Though Spector is out of the picture, "The Fall" creator Allan Cubitt promised fans that there will be more stories in store for Gibson.
"I don't think I'm giving much away in saying it's Jamie's last season," Cubitt shared, as quoted by Express. "But that's not to say that we wouldn't do more of 'The Fall.' I do have some thoughts. But I'm quite keen on doing other things as well, so it's not going to be straight away."
CarterMatt stressed that "The Fall" could still continue and put Gibson at the center of a whole new mystery. Anderson can definitely carry "The Fall" without Dornan and perhaps another criminal could be introduced in future seasons.
According to CarterMatt, "The Fall" has to create "compelling stories" that are as good as the earlier seasons. There's a possibility that the show would take a break for a few years before introducing another season. This way, "The Fall" could come back with fresh plots that would allow Gibson and the rest of the crew to shine.
Anderson also expressed a desire to continue "The Fall" for another season. The actress said that she would like to potentially revisit the series "in a few years, to see what transpires in Stella's life" after the death of Paul, The Telegraph further reported.
