Russell Westbrook Becomes Fourth NBA Player to Post Two Triple-Doubles in 3 Games

Oklahoma City Thunder's Russell Westbrook become the first player in 24 years to post two triple-doubles in the first three games.

Russell Westbrook had 33 points, 12 boards and 16 assists in their third game of the season last Sunday when they went up against the Los Angeles Lakers, which resulted in a 113-96 victory. He also had 51 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists last Friday in the Oklahoma City Thunder's 113-110 OT win over the Phoenix Suns.

The last player to post two triple-doubles in the first three games was Earvin "Magic" Johnson of the Los Angeles Lakers in the 1982-83 season. Westbrook is only the fourth player in NBA history to have done the trick, joining Johnson and Oscar Robertson, who both did it twice, and Jerry Lucas, according to ESPN.

But what makes Russell Westbrook special is that he is the first player to have at least 100 points, 30 rebounds and 30 assists in the first three games of a season.

He was an assist short of having become the first NBA player to have three triple-doubles is the first three games of the season. He opened the season against the Philadelphia 76ers by scoring 32 points, grabbing 12 boards, dishing out nine assists. In three games, Russell Westbrook is averaging in triple double with 38.6 points, 12.3 rebounds and 11.6 assists.

Russell Westbrook has 51 triple-doubles in his career, the most in the NBA since 1975. Last season, Russell Westbrook registered 18 triple-doubles, which tied Earvin Magic Johnson's record in 1981-82. It was also the most in a single season in the last 40 years.

Furthermore, Russell Westbrook's performance against the Phoenix Suns last Friday was first 50-point triple-double in the NBA since Kareem Abdul-Jabbar did it in 1975, CBC Sports reported.

According to the Oklahoma City Thunder guard, winning is his main thing and does whatever it takes to win in every game.

Oklahoma City Thunder coach Billy Donovan said he is amazed on how Russell Westbrook impacts the game in so many ways. He added that the superstar guard exhibits the heart, passion, competitiveness and fire he every single night, which is extremely rare.
