"The Blacklist" is currently on its fourth season but that did not stop NBC to order a spinoff series titled, "The Blacklist: Redemption," in May. Latest reports even hint that actor Ryan Eggold aka Tom Keen has revealed some behind the scenes details of the upcoming spinoff series.
When "The Blacklist" made its first television premiere in September 2013, it instantly became a big hit as it received several good reviews, not to mention the fact that many critics were impressed on the series. With that said, a request for a spinoff series, "The Blacklist: Redemption" is really not surprising at all.
Speaking of "The Blacklist: Redemption," fans are excited to know what the spinoff series has in store for them. The series will reportedly explore Tom Keen's (Eggold) journey as he meets a private mercenary contractor and the cunning chief of Grey Matters, Scottie Hargrave (Famke Janssen), who may or may not be his very own biological mother.
What's more interesting and exciting in "The Blacklist: Redemption" where the behind the scenes secrets that Eggold has apparently unveiled during a debriefing session with Moviefone. Eggold admitted that he's very excited that the spinoff will focus on a classic espionage theme.
Eggold added that "The Blacklist: Redemption" will be a classic spy show, with stuff comparable to Matt Damon's "Bourne" movies, Robert Redford's "Three Days of the Condor" and Jim Phelps' "Mission Impossible" series. As for the element of the series, Eggold revealed it would be the "thematic juxtaposition of discovering one's humanity and empathy."
"The thing that makes that - 'The Blacklist' work, and the thing that this will carry over that I really love is the thematic juxtaposition of discovering one's humanity and empathy, and connecting with other human beings and wanting relationships, and wanting love and these fundamental human principles, juxtaposed with violence and deception, and corruption and conspiracy, and power and all of that," Eggold stated.
In addition, Eggold also shared some bits of information about his "The Blacklist: Redemption" costar Famke Janssen, whom he described as "very at her character." He also admitted that he will be missing Megan Boone (Liz) the most when he asked what he would missed being a series regular in "The Blacklist."
Meanwhile, NBC has enlisted former "Castle" showrunner David Amann as the executive producer/showrunner of "The Blacklist: Redemption," Deadline noted. Amann will serve as the spinoff's executive producer together with "The Blacklist" creator Jon Bokenkamp, John Davis, John Fox and Eisendrath.
"The Blacklist: Redemption" has an eight-episode order and will be part of NBC's midseason lineup. As Parent Herald previously reported, the series may probably premiere in early 2017.
