'The Blacklist: Redemption' Air Date, Latest News: Spinoff Series Hires 'Castle' Scribe As Showrunner, Ryan Eggold Talks Big Changes, Liz's Appearance

"The Blacklist: Redemption," the spinoff to the NBC series starring James Spader and Megan Boone, has found its showrunner. "Castle" scribe David Amann is going to steer the new series, which will focus on Ryan Eggold's character, Tom Keen.

TV Line reports that David Amann was also showrunner for "Castle" Season 7 and he has worked on "The X-files" and "Without a Trace" as producer. "The Blacklist: Redemption" will begin production this November with a mid-season launch on NBC.

Joining Ryan Eggold is Famke Janssen who plays his mother Scottie Hargrave. The character was already introduced to "The Blacklist" viewers in the earlier seasons when the actress had recurring guest appearances.

Eggold's Tom Keene is still in the original "The Blacklist" series, which is currently running its fourth season. However, the character's storyline will carefully lay out his eventual departure from the show.

"The Blacklist" executive producer Jon Bokenkamp said that Tom Keen's transition to "The Blacklist: Redemptions" is going to be "unique and realistic." Ryan Eggold said that the upcoming series won't feature a heavy mythology like the original, but it will be more of a spy show.

"His life's going to change dramatically," the actor told TV Guide regarding the plans for his character's shift to "The Blacklist: Redemption." However, he also admitted that viewers can expect Megan Boone to appear in the spinoff initially, as she plays Tom's wife Liz. There will also be lots of potentials for crossovers between the two series.

"The Blacklist: Redemption" was first announced as in development on the original series last season. Joining Egold and Janssen in the new show are Tawny Cypress, Edi Gathegi and Adrian Martinez as skilled operatives.
