A 3-year-old toddler died in Novant Health Matthews Medical Center after rushed from Monkey Joey in Matthews' Windsor Square. Erin Washington passed away due to natural causes, as cleared out by medical examiners. The police closed the case as no negligence or foul play was found from the investigation.
Erin Washington, 3, was in Matthews' play center Monkey Joe when the whole incident occurred. The 3-year-old child, identified by her family as Erin Washington, was found in distress in Monkey Joe. Immediately authorities were called to the place. The child was brought to Novant Health in Matthews where she held his last breath.
The 3-year-old child was "not in distress on an inflatable or engaging in any arcade games" Monkey Joe told WBTV. The play center also said that they didn't know what exactly caused the death of the toddler but said the authorities are still investigating.
The crime scene was inspected and investigators by the two inspectors together with North Carolina Department of Labor's Elevator and Amusement Device Bureau. As of the police, the inspectors went to the crime scene to know what happened whether the play center falls under the jurisdictional authority of the department, the WSOCTVhas learned.
On Monday, Matthews Police Department announced that they got information about the cause of the child's death from the Office of Medical Examiner. They found out that Erin's death was caused by natural causes. Police decided to close the investigation as no negligence or foul play was found.
Erin was described by her aunt, Ebony Washington, as a beautiful daughter of Nykesha and Eric Washington. Erin's aunt also said that she was a hilarious little girl. Though only three years old, the family said she had touched more lives than people who live to be 100.
A GoFundMe page was created for the child's funeral expenses. Meanwhile, the bereaved family of Erin is asking for prayers at this tough time.
