"Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?"
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Walt Disney Pictures is taking it heads on in creating another classic fairytale "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" into a live-action play.
Erin Cressida Wilson, the screenwriter for "The Girl on The Train," has been tapped to write the script for the musical film "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs." Along with the developing new film are new songs to be written by “La La Land” song writers Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. In addition, Marc Platt who is working on the upcoming Disney on "Mary Poppins Returns" is said to produce the much-loved animated classic.
In 1935, Disney's original "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" was released in theaters. It was based on the Brothers Grimm fairytales and is considered as one of the earliest animated films ever created by Walt Disney.
The classic story begins with a young princess casted out by her jealous stepmother, the Evil Queen, who takes refuge with seven dwarves until she was poisoned by her stepmother disguised as an old hag. However, Snow White is awakened by the kiss of true love by Prince Charming and lives happily ever after. The original film won an honorary Oscar on the 11th Academy Awards.
Previous successful live-action films such as "Maleficent" (2014), "Cinderella" (2015), and "The Jungle Book" (2016) only proved that "Snow White" will be much anticipated and looked forward to. Castings are yet to be announced.
The studio is on a roll in creating live-action remakes of the original animated films. Next up in the list is the "Beauty and the Beast" starring Emma Watson which will be released on March 17, 2017. More talks of Disney developing live-action versions of "Mulan," "The Lion King," "Dumbo," "The Little Mermaid," and "Aladdin" in the near future.
