This World Series was beyond unbelievable. With a leadoff home run by Cubs center fielder Dexter Fowler, the Cubs had a lead early in the game and stayed for most of the game. But thanks to an 8th inning blast by the Indians' Rajai Davis, Cleveland came back around and the score was tied 6-6. Crazy!
Slugger Kris Bryant also contributed a couple of runs for the Cubbies. He also added more RBI's in 7 to his already strong case for MVP by scoring a huge home run in game 6. Addison Russell is also in the conversation for series MVP for keeping the score going for the Cubs. He pulled a sacrifice fly in the second in addition to his grand salami in game 6. Of course, catcher David Ross didn't want to be outdone, so he blasted a 406-foot solo shot for an insurance run in the sixth, putting the Cubs up 6-3. No biggie.
This series wasn't just about the bats, because both teams were ripe with talented pitchers like Jon Lester, Josh Tomlin, Corey Kluber, and of course Aroldis Chapman. Both Cleveland's starter Corey and Cubs pitcher Kyle Hendricks made it through 5 innings in this game before the managers handed the game over to two great bullpens. Each inning in this jaw-dropping game was intense.
The Chicago Cubs and their loyal fans were the big story in the 2016 postseason, but we can't forget that the Indians were every bit the tough competitor in this series. It's been just a little over a century since the Cubs won a championship. It has also been over 71 years since Wrigley Field hosted a World Series game. The length of time since their last appearance created a huge amount of interest not only in Chicago but also for all the baseball fans in all parts of the world. And this game definitely delivered on every level.
