Google Android Security Director Claims Pixel Is As Secure As iPhone; 'SafetyNet' App Can Bridge Faster Updates And Protection?

Everybody loved the Pixel ever since Google said that it would be working on the Smartphone. When it was released last month, the world drooled over the Pixel and the Pixel XL, and it even came to a point that they were dubbed as two of the best handheld device in recent memory.

For what it's worth, the Google Pixel is the shining trophy of the Android platform. On the other side is, of course, Apple's iOS. These two have duked it out from the start, each wanting to overthrow the other and claim the throne of excellence. Security-wise, the iOS comes in with a slight lead, but with the advent of the Pixel, fans are optimistic that the contest would soon shift in momentum.

Speaking on behalf of Android Security Director Adrian Ludwig, Android Authority reported that the Pixel and the iPhone are head to head in "platform-level capabilities" when security comes into play. In addition, Ludwig claimed in a separate interview that Android's open-source ecosystem will be beneficial for more safety protocols in the future.

Analysts and critics would agree that Android can sometimes be tardy when it's time to roll out a new security update. In some cases, it could take months before other models receive the new version, which in turn reduces a device's capability to put up a shield when new threats are discovered.

To address this problem, Android came up with SafetyNet, an Application Program Interface (API) that, according to Cult of Mac, is capable of scanning "400 million devices" and a jaw-dropping "6 billion" applications from harmful segments. Ludwig then added that "less than 1 percent" of all Android devices contain Potentially Harmful Applications, or in the words of the Average Joe, malware.

If this is the case, Android is well on their way to assure owners that their devices are safe and secure. It will take time for Google to eventually streamline a coherent update in a timely fashion, but as far as Ludwig and the Pixel are concerned, everything is within arm's reach.
