Square Enix has announced that it will be releasing "Final Fantasy Legends 2" a mobile game for iOS and Android devices. While consoles and other handhelds have been getting all the goodies of the "Final Fantasy" franchise, the mobiles would not be left behind.
As great as this news may sound there is, however, a catch. Currently, this game seems to be exclusive to Japan. So unless you live over there or can read Japanese, you're out of luck. If Square Enix's actions in the past are any indication of what they're likely to do in the future, then fret not, some "Final Fantasy" games, don't stay exclusive forever, and eventually see a US release.
If you are not from Japan, you have probably never heard of a "Final Fantasy Legends" game, you're probably gonna be googling it after hearing about this second game. The first game "Final Fantasy Legends: Hikari to Yami no Senshi" as it was called in Japan was released worldwide under the name "Final Fantasy Dimensions" back in 2012.
The gameplay of "Final Fantasy Legends" is reminiscent of the 16-bit era RPG games, RPG gamers will definitely find comfort in the familiar interface and controls of the game. As for "Final Fantasy Legends 2", no gameplay has been revealed yet, the trailer which is all in Japanese shows nothing about it at the moment.
We can only assume, for now, that the gameplay won't be far from what we know of from the games of the "Final Fantasy" franchise. Considering how mobile devices have evolved since the last "Final Fantasy Legends" game in 2012, it would be interesting to see how the game would make use of the most powerful hardware and unique controls of those touch-based devices.
