Megyn Kelly joined Kelly Ripa to host "Live!" after spending a long night covering the 2016 U.S. Elections for Fox News, where Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump emerged victorious.
"Straight from the frontlines," Ripa says as she introduced the journalist. Kelly's appearance on the daytime talk show was well received by the audience present in the studio. "This is very nice," she says amidst the cheering crowd. "What a delightful way to start your morning."
Once the two women finally settled, Ripa wasted no time in getting into business by holding up newspapers that read that Trump is now the president-elect after he defeated his rival, Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. Kelly then talked about how voters didn't expect that the loud-mouthed billionaire would win and that the race would be tight. She explained that his victory was a result of a "hidden Trump vote."
"Some people felt stigmatized (sic) about voting for Donald Trump and didn't want to tell the pollsters who they were voting for, but they did want to go into the polling booth and do what they felt was right. It was a resounding victory, there's no question about it," she said, according to Entertainment Tonight Online.
Kelly admits that the results of the election were "unprecedented," but urged the audience and viewers at home to "keep an open mind" on Trump. "Love him or hate him, he's the next President of our country," she noted.
In the 2016 U.S. Elections, Trump ended up being triumphant, after the Republican party won a total of 279 electoral college votes, despite getting only 47.5 percent of the votes nationally compared to Clinton, who garnered 47.7 percent of the votes nationally, according to the BBC.
Trumps win was met with global backlash, with several cities in the U.S. already staging protests over the results. He is expected to take the presidential duties from current U.S. President Barack Obama, who will step down from office in January 2017.
