Fans of the first "Jurassic World" movie starring Chris Patt should mark June 22, 2018 on their calendars, as Universal has announced the movie's sequel will be rolling in theaters on that date, according to Entertainment Weekly.
Chris Pratt will reprise his role as Owen Grady while Bryce Dallas Howard will also play Claire Dearing again. Also back for the sequel are writers Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly, but it is not yet known who will be directing the second film to this latest Jurassic franchise. The first movie was directed by Trevorrow.
"Jurassic Park is like Star Wars. Different directors can give a different taste to each movie," said Trevorrow in the Entertainment Weekly report. Aside from his involvement as writer, he will also serve as an executive producer along with Steven Spielberg and Frank Marshall.
The news comes as "Jurassic World" has just been declared the third biggest box office hit of all time, according to Yahoo.
The movie has already earned $1.522 billion all over the world, dislodging "The Avengers" in its spot. The number one box office film on record is still "Titanic" followed by "Avatar."
"I don't think anyone thought 'Jurassic World' had any shot at this record coming into the summer," said Jeff Bock, an analyst who tracks box office records at Exhibitor Relations, via the Yahoo report. "It just goes to show you that super heroes have nothing on dinosaurs, probably because they actually walked the earth at one time, something that has intrigued all ages for eons," Bock added.
Meanwhile, it is no secret that the star of the movie has signed on for more "Jurassic World." In another interview with Entertainment Weekly, Chris candidly remarked that the studio has him tied for "38 movies or something."
The actor is also part of another huge sequel, "Guardians of the Galaxy 2," with director James Gunn. The film is set to be in theaters in 2017. The script for the second movie was finished only last month. In a video interview with Digital Spy, the actor revealed that the story actually made him cry.
"What I will say is that [Gunn's] pitch and his ideas legitimately put tears in my eyes. It is so good, it's so good. I cannot wait to get started on it and I cannot wait for people to see what he's going to pull off with this second movie," according to Nerd Bastards.
