Green Bay Packers Quarterback Aaron Rodgers complained about his team's "low energy" in their 31-26 loss to the Indianapolis Colts at Lambeau Field on Sunday.
A win would have allowed the Green Bay Packers to tie with the Minnesota Vikings at first-place in the NFC North. Instead, they suffered their third loss in the past four games. Aaron Rodgers found their low energy level "unacceptable" and "uncharacteristic" and couldn't figure out the reason behind it, ESPN reported.
Their lackluster performance occurred just after coach Mike McCarthy announced that they had their "best week of preparation." Aaron Rodgers added that they are paid to play football and that it's their responsibility to bring out their best game every week.
While the Green Bay Packers allowed a 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Jordan Todman on the first play, Aaron Rodgers said they should be mentally tougher in handling that downer. He noted that dealing with adversity says a lot about the kind of team and players they have.
It was also troubling that even after Aaron Rodgers sent a 26-yard touchdown pass to Jordy Nelson that got the Green Bay Packers to within 14-10 at the end of the first quarter, the Green Bay Packers remained lethargic.
Aaron Rodgers added that the Green Bay Packers were so listless that the crowd even got excited when a squirrel ran on the field and caused the game to be stopped briefly in the third quarter.
On the other hand, Indianapolis Colts coach Chuck Pagano said that he is really proud of his team for constantly working and not quitting, according to UPI.
The coach said that his team found a way to make huge plays, including a couple by Andrew Luck in the closing minutes. With the Green Bay Packers completing a couple of touchdowns to get within 31-26, Andrew Luck made key passes to tight end Jack Doyle and receiver T.Y. Hilton in the last three minutes to preserve the victory. Earlier, Andrew Luck caught Dante Moncrief with an 8-yard pass in the second quarter that put the Indianapolis Colts up 24-10.
