The South Carolina man Todd Kohlhepp kidnapped and chained Kala Brown for two months in a metal container. He also has been charged with quadruple murder according to police after confessing to a murder 13 years ago. Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright is convinced that Kohlhepp's confession was true based on the details he shared with the detectives that only the killer would have known.
Todd Kohlhepp, 45, was arrested on Thursday for kidnapping 30-year-old Kala Brown. Brown was discovered with a chain around her neck and ankle in a locked container. Police rescued Kala Brown after hearing a banging noise when they arrived at the South Carolina man Todd Kohlhepp's property with a search warrant.
Wright said the South Carolina man Todd Kohlhepp may even be linked to as many as seven deaths. After finding a body in a shallow grave, investigators have searched for more bodies in his 38-hectare property. Police later identified the body found in a shallow grave as Brown's boyfriend, Charlie Carver, 32 years old, who had been shot multiple times.
After being released, Brown told the police she had been locked up in the container for two months and witnessed the South Carolina man Todd Kohlhepp shoot her boyfriend. The couple had been missing since August.
While recovering, a friend of Kala Brown who stayed with her in the hospital room said, "They were going to do some work, help cleaning up the property. And he pulled out a gun and took them hostage," adding that the abduction happened quickly.
Police stated that Kala Brown and the South Carolina man Todd Kohlhepp knew each other beforehand.
It is also unclear when the South Carolina man Todd Kohlhepp will be charged for the alleged murder of Carver.
According to Yahoo News, the South Carolina man Todd Kohlhepp was convicted of raping a 14-year-old girl at gunpoint at the age of 15 and was registered as a sex offender in South Carolina for a 1987 conviction in Arizona. After completing his prison sentence in 2001, Todd Kohlhepp moved South Carolina.
