Two-time NBA MVP Stephen Curry posted a new NBA record for 3-pointers by burying 13 as the Golden State Warriors subdued the New Orleans Pelicans, 116-106, on Monday at the Oracle Arena.
Stephen Curry connected 13-of-17 attempts from beyond the arc in scoring 46 points in 36 minutes, according to ESPN. The feat surpassed the previous record of 12 triples that Stephen Curry shared with Kobe Bryant and Donyell Marshall.
Less than a week ago, Stephen Curry said that Ray Allen, who holds the NBA record for most career 3-pointers with 2,973 in 18 years, is the greatest shooter in league history. Stephen Curry explained that Ray Allen had the distinction due to his longevity doing it year-to-year. He made the comment following Ray Allen's announcement, FOX NEWS reported.
Incidentally, Stephen Curry failed to connect from 3-point range in 10 attempts in a Golden State Warriors loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday that snapped his streak of 157 consecutive games where he had at least one 3-pointer.
Klay Thompson added 24 points, Kevin Durant chipped in added 22, and Draymond Green had a double-double of 12 rebounds and 11 assists for the Golden State Warriors in their win over the New Orleans Pelicans.
Anthony Davis had 33 points and 13 rebounds to lead the New Orleans Pelicans, who are winless in seven games. The New Orleans Pelicans, along with the Philadelphia 76ers, who are 0-6, are the only teams in the NBA still without a victory.
The game was close from the opening bell until the Golden State Warriors ignited a 22-3 blast, including 17 unanswered points, to surge 61-40 in the second quarter. Stephen Curry connected three 3-pointers during the run while Klay Thompson added a couple of triples. The Golden State Warriors led 63-49 at halftime.
However, the New Orleans Pelicans answered with a 15-2 barrage, capped by an Anthony Davis hook shot with 4:14 remaining in the third that put them ahead 73-72. With 3:33 left in the game and the Golden State Warriors ahead by just 100-95, Stephen Curry exploded with three 3-pointers in a span of one minute and 10 seconds to give his team a 109-97 lead.
It was the first game at Oracle Arena for Golden State Warriors after being embarrassed in a 122-96 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder last Thursday, which was Kevin Durant's first game against his former team.
