Bleeding hearts who wept when Professor Snape killed Albus Dumbledore in the Harry Potter storyline now have reason to rejoice. The wise and magnanimous Albus Dumbledore will be appearing in the second movie of the "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" series.
Eonline broke the news in an interview with film director David Yates, who himself signed on as director of the second movie. "In the second movie Dumbledore comes back. He's got a couple of good scenes with Newt. We're discussing who would play Dumbledore, any suggestions would be good," the report read.
"Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" is the prequel to the adventures of Harry Potter. It takes place 60 years before Harry and the well-loved characters the world came to know existed. The story was also created by J.K. Rowling, who will also be writing the script for the films. To date, they have agreed to produce five films for "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them." The first one will be released on November 18 this year.
The first movie features Academy Award winner Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander, a magizoologist who travelled the world in search for magical creatures. Upon his arrival in New York City, some of Newt's fantastic beasts escape. He has to catch them again in order to save the wizarding and non-wizarding worlds.
The second movie will be released after two years. According to the Daily Mail, Albus Dumbledore will be appearing in the sequel as a much younger Hogwarts teacher. The report confirmed that there will be numerous scenes between Albus Dumbledore and the lead character, Newt.
Apart from confirming Albus Dumbledore's appearance in the spin-off series, the article also said that Johnny Depp will be part of the first and second "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" movies. The character actor is no stranger to the fantasy realm having played the Mad Hatter in "Alice in Wonderland" and Capt. Jack Sparrow in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise. Depp will reportedly have a short cameo in the first movie, but will figure more prominently in the second "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them."
Rumor has it that he will play Gallert Grindelwald, a friend of Albus Dumbledore before being seduced by dark magic. He later on becomes a powerful dark wizard.
