"Gotham" Episode 3.09 Hints at Villain from Batman Animated Series: The Judge

Police Captain Nathaniel Barnes may have just been introduced as the newest villain to wreak havoc in Gotham City. FOX network has just released the promo for "Gotham" Episode 3.09 which has been aptly titled "The Executioner."

Episode 3.09 of "Gotham," which will air on November 14 at 8 PM ET, has Gordon and Bullock combing through the evidence left from the bloody murder scene at Lee and Mario's engagement party. It can be recalled that the previous episode ended with Barnes declaring himself as "judge, jury and executioner."

According to Cinemablend.com, Barnes may be turning into "The Judge," another Batman nemesis who only appeared in the animated series. The change in GCPD's head honcho was brought about by being infected with Alice's tainted blood. With no cure in sight, Barnes finally listened to the voices inside his head and decided to put justice in his own hands.

Actor Michael Chiklis, who plays Barnes in Gotham, said he was prepared for the character change. He said in a report that he was informed of the plot twist before he accepted the role.

"I knew that I could be a particular kind of man, knowing that I didn't have to worry about it becoming too one note or flat, because I was going to go somewhere," he explained. "That's the wonderful thing about being in television anyway, because you get to explore a character over the course of many, many hours instead of the context of a two-hour film. There's some really cool stuff coming," the article read.

Fans are intrigued by the introduction of "The Judge" for several reasons. First, he was only shown in the "Batman" Animated Series. Second, he is another alter-ego of Harvey Dent's villainous character, "Two Face." This is a curious development, indeed.

"Gotham" Episode 3.09 also features a reunion between the now grown-up Poison Ivy and her friend Selina Kyle. This, of course, results into more trouble. Don't miss the next episode of "Gotham"!
