Filming for "Stranger Things" Season 2 has apparently started on Monday on location in Atlanta. Director Shawn Levy has returned to production and he shares some details, including planning for a potential "Stranger Things" Season 3.
Shawn Levy will be back to direct the third and fourth episode of "Stranger Things" Season 2. The first two episodes will be directed by the show's creators, the Duffer brothers Matt and Ross, as it was in the first season.
In his chat with Collider, Shawn Levy said that work for "Stranger Things" will push through till January next year. Production will be completing nine episodes of "Stranger Things" Season 2.
With the filming schedule for "Stranger Things," Shawn Levy said that fans might expect a July 2017 release date and not earlier. "There's no way it launches in spring since I just admitted we started filming today, and we're doing nine," he revealed to the news outlet.
The people behind "Stranger Things" are also one step ahead and have been planning for the third season. Even if Netflix has yet to confirm "Stranger Things" Season 3, the show's popularity would've already sealed its longevity on the streaming site.
Meanwhile, the "Stranger Things" cast is growing bigger in Season 2 with the addition of Sean Astin, Paul Reiser and Linnea Berthelsen, Entertainment Weekly reports. Astin will play the former high school classmate of Joyce (Winona Ryder) and Chief Hopper (David Harbour). Fans are actually thrilled about his addition given that Astin was part of '80s film "Goonies," which many say was a lot like "Stranger Things."
On the other hand, Reiser will play an official of the Department of Energy (DOE) and Berthelsen will play a mom whose lost child might have links with the DOE. Matthew Modine was cast as the DOE official in the last season of 'Stranger Things" and it is believed that he will be back for the second season as well.
