"Sherlock" Season 4 cancellation news reveals that the show may come to an end after series 4 on BBC. According to E! News, series creator Steven Moffat told in a previous statement that he would not be surprised if the show would have to end after the fourth season.
Even Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays Sherlock, said in an interview that "Sherlock" Season 4 may be the last, reports Wales Online. However, the "Doctor Strange" actor reassured fans that it may take a long while before the show airs another season.
"I think there will be a lull," he said. "I don't think it will be in a year and a half necessarily but we will wait and see and maybe it will be."
Moffat also seemed to share the same sentiments as Cumberbatch with regard to the future of "Sherlock" Season 4. According to the series creator, it may take a long while before the show premieres another season on air due to the casting difficulties.
Moffat, however, reassured fans and viewers that BBC is unlikely to end "Sherlock" with series 4 because that would leave the audience with a lot of questions in mind. The showrunner said that it would be better if they took a long break in-between seasons than to end the series abruptly.
"Sherlock" Season 4 premieres on Jan. 1 on BBC.
