Parenting And Education: Why Learning Should Begin At Home

The academic year has started and schools are getting busy welcoming back students. Timetables and syllabus are planned to ensure every child's fruitful schooling. Parents need to understand that even before playgroup and kindergarten, there is a school called home, a place where a child learns basic ethics and the primary conduct of life.

According to Child Development Info, only 36 percent of fourth-grade students are proficient in reading. It is not because the education system is lacking instead it is because the environment at home is not favorable for children in some cases.

At times, parents are not equipped with tools that can aid them in helping their children get good and higher grades. There are also instances that parents have become too busy to teach their kids at home.

Fortunately, several schools and colleges have programs or events that include students as well as their parents in a healthy learning experience. Community centers also offer some programs for adult and family learning.

In addition, a learning program for toddlers and parents named "talk with me baby" also aimed to coach parents how they can increase language development of their toddlers. This initiative was mentioned in U.S. NEWS and was appreciated by everyone.

Meanwhile, times have changed and so should the technique of educating the children. It's not only the duty of teachers and schools to ensure a child's successful academic life but parents too.

With that said, parents should get involve with the whole education process. Ask the children's school board to start parent literacy programs and get on with the learning new things.

If providing a better life is the aim of the parents, then they should start putting efforts today because learning is an inter-generational process. Parents should also start educating themselves so they can have a better involvement in their kids' educational life.

It may come as a surprise to most that Japanese children don't join school until and unless they're taught basic manners at home first. Moreover, exams do not become mandatory until age ten.
